In this class, we’ll play with fun moves that invite us to keep moving, discover new pathways, and enjoy the playful possibilities of sharing space and movement together. Come ready to explore, connect, and have fun!

Redirects and Turns:  Come explore the playful possibilities of redirects and turns with us! We’ll experiment with compression, discover different ways to add variety to our turns, and play with fun styling to bring a little extra personality to our dancing. Whether you’re looking to expand your options or simply enjoy trying something new, we’ll create space to explore, experiment, and have fun together!

Pop Into Possibility:   There’s nothing quite like a pop turn that really pops! In this class, we’ll dig into the mechanics that make a single-time pop turn feel crisp, satisfying, and connected, and then explore ways we can redirect that energy to take the movement somewhere unexpected. With plenty of options to mix, match, and play with, this class is all about turning one idea into a whole collection of possibilities.

Historical Combos:  Explore classic collegiate shag combinations rooted in the dance’s rich history, developing your leading and following skills through playful rhythms, clear communication, and dynamic partner connection. We’ll also explore how to make these vintage patterns your own, finding space for individual expression, musicality, and personal style within the shared dance.

Continue the Flow:  When we dance, just as the music moves seamlessly throughout, we want to be able to do the same when we dance. In this class we will be focusing on how to add and subtract to moves, as well as transition between them, to create effortless flow that matches what we are hearing in the music.

Collegiate Shag with Julie and Haily (1.5 hours Saturday)

Go with the Flow:  Every dance is an opportunity to connect, explore, and have fun! In this all-levels class, we’ll share tools to help you feel more comfortable, adaptable, and confident on the dance floor. Together, we’ll explore how to navigate the unexpected, meet your partner where they are, and find joy in the moment. Come as you are, and let’s enjoy the dance together!

Beyond the Moves:  Every lead knows the panicked feeling of what do I do next. Every follow knows the feeling of not knowing how to take space because they have to follow the move. Come explore this class with us as we show you how to have a fun and interesting dance for both you and your partner without ever needing another move.

Case Closed:  Shag too often ignores closed position using it as something to move in and out of rather than something to play with and explore. Get close with us as we journey away from open.

Breaking Patterns:  A lot of us get lazy with our dancing and find ourselves following and leading patterns and moves rather than using the connection and partnership throughout. Let’s break out of the box of patterns and discover a whole new dance.

Cozy Connection:  Feel more at home in the dance. We’ll focus on coziness, pulse, and relaxation.

Fast and Slow:  Sometimes to go fast, we have to focus on the slows. This class will emphasize fast tempos and creating momentum.

Musicality:  Musicality is everywhere! Explore how to listen to music and our partners.

2 hours of Collegiate Shag instruction (beginner) and 1 hour applied practice with Tzefira and Mark

This workshop will establish basic foundations of shag, and plant seeds of musicality

from the ground up.

Class 1:  we'll focus on the six-count shag basic in open, closed, and side-by-side. We will explore the
nuances of slows, and quicks and introduce building blocks of musicality through the basic.

Class 2:  we'll dive deeper into exploring shapes in open, closed, and side-by-side. We will play with
timing of classic moves including double kicks, cross overs, and arch turns building a path to musicality
and play.

Applied practice: We will continue to solidify concepts from classes 1 and 2 through group practice.
Be prepared to stretch your brain and work in small groups or pairs to take on challenges suggested by
your instructors meant to foster creativity and hone technique!

2 hours of Balboa instruction (beginner) and 1 hour applied practice with Bridget and Robbie

In this Workshop, we will focus on building skills from the ground up! If you’re new to balboa, or want to learn a new role this track will get you started.

Fundamental focus:  delve into the basics and fundamentals of pure balboa.

Connection, connection, connection:  this Class will focus on connecting to the music, the floor, our partner, and ourselves. Feel out the best way to step into a social dance with confidence.

Applied practice: We will continue to solidify concepts from classes 1 and 2 through group practice.
